Announcement of Provisional Appointment to Governing Board

Press Release from Duarte Unified School District

On April 26, 2022, Jacqueline Ku, then member of the Governing Board of the Duarte Unified School District, filed notice with the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools, resigning as a member of the Governing Board, effective April 30, 2022. At its regular meeting of May 12, 2022, the Board took action to follow the appointment procedure permitted by Education Code Section 5091 to fill the vacancy.

At a special meeting held on June 7, 2022 the Governing Board provisionally appointed Frank Figueroa to fill the vacancy.

Frank is the Sr. Director of Sales Development for Exito Travel, a Travel Management Company, and he also serves on the seven-member board of the directors for the company. He holds an Associate degree in Arts/Liberal Studies from Mt. San Antonio College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State Polytechnic University. Additionally, following his election in 1995, Mr. Figueroa served as a member of the Duarte Unified School District Board of Education for 18 years.

Mr. Figueroa is conferred with all powers and duties of a governing board member immediately following his provisional appointment. Unless a petition calling for a special election, containing a sufficient number of signatures is filed in the office of Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools within 30 days of the date of Mr. Figueroa’s provisional appointment, his shall become an effective appointment, and he will serve as a member of the Governing Board until the next regularly scheduled election of November 2022.
