State agency California Volunteers awarded Duarte’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) with $15,000 in grant funding on Friday, July 19.
Duarte CERT received one of the agency’s CERT/Listos Capacity Building grants which are designed to increase the number of volunteers and enhance the capability of CERT programs in educating the public on emergency preparedness and creating resilient communities statewide.
The grant will support CERT programs by providing funding for training, equipment, insurance, and background checks for new and existing volunteers. Funding was made available through the passage of AB-72 in 2018, the California For All Emergency Preparedness Campaign.
California Volunteers is an official state agency through the Office of the Governor that focuses on promoting volunteering. Its key initiatives include AmeriCorps, business partners program, and disaster donations and volunteering. A 25-member commission appointed by the governor is in charge of overseeing the agency.
