While visiting the City of Duarte website recently, you may have noticed a new icon at the bottom left-hand corner of your screen of a stick figure in a white circle. This is the website’s new PageAssist feature! PageAssist, an add-on provided by Monsido, a software company that provides government website solutions, is a personalization toolbar that helps display the website in a way that is more usable and visually accessible.
The PageAssist tool is added to the City website as an overlay, allowing visitors to customize their visual experience based on their own unique requirements. Visitors can change colors, fonts, font size, and formatting making it easier for them to consume the website’s content.
Click on the icon to open the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. When using “Open Personalization View,” users can change the website’s font size and font type based on individual needs. Font options include OpenDyslexic 3, a typeface specifically designed to increase readability for readers with dyslexia. Letters in this typeface have heavy weighted bottoms to indicate direction. Users can quickly figure out which part of the letter is down, which aids in recognizing the correct letter.
Users will also have the option of clicking on “Site Menu” to remove all background photos and formatting, allowing visitors to see everything from one simple view. Users will also be able to change the website theme, benefitting those with issues such as color blindness by allowing them to change the color scheme.
Lastly, “Keyboard Navigation” allows visitors with limited mouse control to use keyboard shortcuts to click on links.
The City of Duarte is proud to provide PageAssist and be able to remove some accessibility issues, helping to ensure an equal experience for all visitors to our City website.
