Giving to Fellow Duarte Families and Youth this Holiday Season

The Duarte community continues a treasured tradition this year: the Duarte Holiday of Promise Project, which gifts toys and goods to hundreds of Duarte families and youth.

Duarte Parks and Recreation AmeriCorps VIP Fellows and the Public Safety Department are partnering with the Neighborhood Watch, the Duarte Community Services Council, the Duarte Emblem Club, and the Duarte Elks Club to ensure a joyous 2020 holiday season during this challenging year.

“Children need joy more than ever this holiday season,” said Duarte AmeriCorps Lead Daisy Perez. “With the abrupt changes children have had to endure this past year, we are proud to be able to give them a sense of normalcy and cheer through the Duarte Holiday of Promise Project.”

The Project is accepting new toys, new clothes, personal items, electronics, dry goods, canned and boxed food, beverages, dry ingredients, desserts/sweets, baby formula, and diapers. If you’re planning to donate toys, ensure that:

  • All toy donations are new and store packaged, but not gift-wrapped

  • Toys do not contain small parts that could present a choking hazard to small children

  • Donated toys enrich Duarte youth’s development

If you’re interested in donating to the Duarte Holiday of Promise Project, you can drop off your gifts at the Duarte Public Safety Office (1042 Huntington Drive) until Saturday, December 5 by 4:00 p.m.

Another option is to donate during one of the scheduled drive-thru drop-off events from 2-4 p.m. at the Duarte Civic Center (1600 Huntington Drive) on any of the following dates:

  • Thursday, December 3

  • Wednesday, December 9

  • Wednesday, December 16

You may also make donations in other ways, such as by writing a check, made payable to “Duarte Community SC,” or donating gift cards and other similar items.

All donations will be delivered to and distributed by the Duarte Community Services Council.

“The toy drive brings joy to me every year. The Lord has blessed me with the ability to give,” said Duarte Neighborhood Watch Block Captain Olivia Brys. “No child should be without a toy on Christmas.”
